Gebre Kiristos

was born in Jamaica WI. His formative years were spent in Hamden CT. where he gained an early appreciation for music as a DJ.

He began promoting his own parties and socials while only in Junior High School.

He not only played the records but also studied them intently for sounds and textures deep within the music and could even name producers, arrangers and musicians on hundreds of albums. Emulating such DJ greats as Larry Lavan(Paradise Garage, NYC), Frankie Crocker(WBLS, NYC) and Grand Master Flash and every DJ in the Hip-Hop and Dance Hall reggae genres.

Gebre learned from listening to the best and soon developed his own style.

After high school He left Hamden to seek his destiny in New York and settled in Seacliff NY, where he was exposed to classic rock artist such as the Grateful Dead, Zeppelin and others. During this time he became a devout Rasta and totally submerged himself in the works of reggae pioneer Peter Tosh, his biggest single influence.

He learned to play the guitar and soon thereafter began creating his own compositions. He joined his first band Catch A Fire and began performing original and covers in local clubs and venues.

"To be you got to know" one of the first songs written by Gebre echoes the Biblical story of Cain and Able and is true to form in the roots reggae genre. It is featured on his forthcoming Album Past and Present. Another stand-out single from the album is “Feel It”.

The provocative blend of the various musical influences on Gebre and his own inborn natural talents has produced one the most creative artist yet to be discovered on the planet today. Gebre Kiristos possesses a courageous engagement with life and the galvanizing charisma of Bob Marley.

He can be considered a social maverick, a pan - Africanist, and a humanist. His infectious and inimitable ethno orchestrations are written for the next generation of listeners. Once fully realized, Gebre Kiristos musical genius will have unmatched stellar power
